i am not happy.

otherwise, things are okay.

i am a horrible person and i have not been updating but i have been basically SLEEPING for god knows how long, really, because i was so tired after finals and then i got sick (24-hour flu or something suffice to say that it was horrible).

BUT I PASSED FINALS, I PASSED (barely).

I know now that I can't slack off like I was in Japanese; I really need to get my shit in gear over these uh 5 weeks and PRACTICE PRACTICE! I even brought last year's book home so that I could practice, and email my professor some sentences and things. I think that it should go better next term.

Religion and the Political Order is "A historical survey of primary texts engaging the intersection of religion and political theory as well as the relationship between political leadership and religious/ethical visions. Emphasis is placed upon Western political philosophers shaped within the traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and/or Islam as well as upon the themes of theocracy, civil religion, and secularization. Thinkers studied may include Plato, early Christian authors, Eusebius, John Chrysostom, Augustine, Al-Farabi, Maimonides, Averroes, Aquinas, Marsilius of Padua, Reformation authors, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, or De Tocqueville." So not so bad, I mean at leas in EAT I'll have a grasp on what the material is, because ... well, because I've already learned it! I've already taken classes on it and I'm just taking this mainly because I have to in order to graduate ...

my birthday was last wednesday, and let me tell you, it was so fun!

only thing that sucks is that the chick that took the photo made me take my glasses off because they cause a glare. but i have to wear my glasses to drive, so ... shouldn't i have them on in the photo? idk, all i care about is that I got it, it is mine, and now i can buy LIQUOR without people looking at me funnily like my license may be a fake.

in other news -

novel progress is going swimmingly, i've hit a few roadblocks with language (because who speaks/writes Coptic anymore? coptic orthodox people, and they're mostly monks, and don't speak to women) but I think that I've worked my way around it and so far, so good. totally revamping the writing, I'm going to focus on characters and details about the world for a while rather than jump into writing as i am wont to do.

ragggh it's just so hard because i know what I want to say but not really how to say it - if i could just transport the images I see in my head onto paper, this thing would have been done suuuuuch a long time ago. still, i like it, and when i'm not sleeping or eating, i'm writing or planning or things like that.

annnyway i have been reading entries and things like i said, but if there's something that I missed - tell me lah!

So yesterday was my 21st birthday.

I spent the first half of it cleaning up my dorm room and driving back home because it was the last day to leave campus.

i made it home in a little under an hour, which was the best time I've ever made! (it was also noon-oclock so most people were still at work as compared to when i normally leave haha.)

for dinner we got panda (the best Szechuan food around the area) as there's like no good chinese food in naperville unless you count Panda Express and Noodles. which i don't.

at like 7 we hit up Sideouts (the local bar/bowling alley) and met up with my Aunt Linda, her daughter Jena, and Kimmy, a friend of my mom and I. (i don't care for any of the people i went to high school with, and I wouldn't want to go out with them.) so, i consumed:

1.5 bloody marys
1 white russian
1 razztini (fucking strong lah!; Stoli Razberi, Chambord raspberry liqueur, sweet and sour mix)
1 stoli razberi shot
1.5 oatmeal cookie shots (containing Irish cream, cinnamon schnapps, butterscotch schnapps, and Jägermeister)

what i really wanted was a chocolate cake shot, but the bar DIDN'T HAVE ANY FRANGELICO nor any brown sugar. How can you not have any Frangelico! come on. ultimate fail.

my birthday gifts so far:
a shopping outing on black friday (please kill me)
8 liquor-filled chocolates (in Jim Beam, Grand Marnier, Remy Martin, and Stoli Ohrany)
a net book (which is a gift to myself but STILL)
and 2 undisclosed somethings that I will receive on Saturday from Kimmy and Johnni
and of course last night's drinking binge haha.

AND IT SHALL BE PHOTO HEAVY!

o1. Collect your supplies.

it doesn't have to be as scary as mine.

o2. Set your straightener on FIAH (aka as high as you can get it, the hotter the better, the straighter your hair will be).

o3. While it heats up, use as much serum as you need to get your hair straight. The amount below is applied to one half of my head, so i need about double that amount for all of my hair.

o4. STRAIGHTEN TIL IT'S STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE. At least the bottom bit and the bangs, because the top's rather ... inconsequential.

o5. Grab your comb, and get ready to backcomb!

o6. Take a chunk of hair, in a kind of point-y-horn-y-round-ish shape (I BET YOU GOT ALL OF THAT).

o7. BACKCOMB THE FUCK OUT OF IT.

o8. Take a chunk from below what you've just done, lather, rinse, repeat.

o9. Grab the BED HEAD spray, and spray!

o1o. "Plump" it from the bottom, and make it stick up how you want it to do. I like mine as is:

o11. Repeat, with the other side. Then, backcomb the back. That's a little more difficult. You want to stop backcombing right where you can feel the curve of your skull transitioning from your neck muscles. First bit: done!

o12. Take the HE, and spray till your hair is damp but still malleable. You want to mold it to your ideal shape. Then let dry.

o13. Take the Got2b and use it on the very tips of your hair to twist them and make them stand up, and right by your roots to give it a boost. Make sure not to get it on your bangs, as it's super stiff and has a tough hold. Let dry again.

o14. Take the VO5 Super Keep and use it as an all-over spray to keep it all in place, especially your bangs. It doesn't take a lot.

o15. Re-straighten the bottom of your hair, if you need. Normally I leave it down, but I was going for a "cute punk" look that day, so I put it into pigtails; no need to re-straighten.

o16. Do your makeup - you can read about that at this post.

o17. Then get dressed, and look really awesome.

(my shirt says "czech yourself before you wreck yourself" while in the shape of the czech republic lol).

today's look: how to.

TODAY, i needed a pick-me-up. So I decided to do my makeup for tonight's football game (NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS vs BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY EAGLES) and show you how; it's rather easy actually but there are a lot of steps below.

Follow the cut and get ready for a lot of my face~!

o1. Find some music that you can listen to for a good long while. My choice was The Blue Hearts.

and a version by MxPx, which is awesome.

o2. Have a clean face. Tah-dah!

o3. Have a good supply of makeup, including q-tips, good quality makeup brushes, and tape. You'll need it later.

o4. Do the BASE of your makeup - that means primer, foundation, and if you need to pencil in your eyebrows, DO IT NOW. My primer is Rimmel's FIX & PERFECT, my foundation's CoverGirl, the pencil's ALSO CoverGirl.

o5. You need BLACK and SILVER (or WHITE METALLIC) eyeshadow; my brand is L'Oreal HIP. You also need two brushes; one medium and one small.

o6. Apply the SILVER to the INNER corner of your eye to about the mid-point of your lid; if you're looking straight ahead it should bisect your pupil. For example:

o7. Apply the BLACK to the OUTER corner of your eye, and it should meet the silver in the middle. Blend a little to make the middle a 'darker silver'; that's the only way i can tell you what it should look like without showing you in a video haha.

o8. Apply the BLACK to your lash-line at the OUTER corner, and the SILVER to your lash-line at the INNER corner.

o9. Apply your mascara. My base coat is ALWAYS Rimmel's GLAM'EYES, followed by a coat of Rimmel's EYE MAGNIFIER.

o1o. Here is where the tape comes in. By now you are almost covered in little silver and black metallic bits. Rather than wipe it all off and take all your foundation with you, use the tape to gently remove the bits of glitter/sparkle/eyeshadow from your face.

o11. And you're done!

the colors of eyeshadow are interchangeable, but you need one light color and one dark color. i've done this look with cream and pink (cream is the lighter), teal and blue (teal is the lighter), pink and purple (pink is the lighter), and cream and green (cream is the lighter). i've seen it done with yellow and purple as well, but i'm not keen on that look.

my parents are gone for the day, so i tried out my new makeup (rimmel london's fix & perfect and stir it up in "no way!") and figured out what my hair could do. now, though, i have to get in the shower before they get home so my father isn't all like WHY OD YOU LOOK LIKE A WHORE and such things.

(it will wait for like a hour though i guarantee it).

it is actually really cold for august/september though (like 65-70F) and i am cold in my tank top, so it'll be nice to get it off and take a nice warm shower.

the material life post! + hair

So as you guys may (or may not) know, I love to spend money. Like, I really love it. I have already made a list of things to buy when I get my first paycheck (1. 8gb card for my DS; 2. new iPod (120 GB); 3. a new pair of Chucks).

That is how I live my life - spendy spendy spendy.

So I figured that I would show all of you guys what I cannot LIVE without currently (some of the things aren't REALLY material but hell why not?)

So let's go! They're also in no particular order.

1. My Car

It is a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Fuck. Best little car ever. I have not ever had any problems with it, it gets me where I need to go, and it fits 5 people (unless there are people hiding in the back; it is a hatchback.)

2. The Outdoors

Okay so not really material, and I don't like being outside and working, but I suppose it's something that if I don't have, it really really bothers me. I like being outside, in the sun or the shade, as long as I can have a good book or my computer.

3. My Dogs

TECHNICALLY material! They cost me money (to buy them, and feed them, and get them groomed, et cetera). Left is Sarah, middle is Molly, and right is Sadie (smooth coat Parson's Terrier, mixed Rough Parson's Terrier/Beagle, rough coat Parson's Terrier, respectively).

4. A TV

This is the living room TV. There is one of equal size in my parent's room, and I have a 25" in my room which my parents gave to me when they got their new TV. I have my shows to watch, and I cannot miss them - Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, Dirty Jobs, The Naked Archeologist, Saving Grace, and Bizarre Foods. And, of course, FOOTBALL. Do not fuck with me when my shows are on.

5. Books

I love books. I just finished reading Time Bandit about the Deadliest Catch boat and family of the same name. I am going to start the book Redeeming the Lost by Elizabeth Kerner either tonight or tomorrow; it's the last book in a trilogy I have been reading for quite some time.

6. Makeup

I do not go out without makeup on. Ever. It is a rule of mine. I had, at one point, a lot more than this but I am slowly getting rid of the old makeup and buying new stuff - and as much Rimmel and Medusa's Makeup as possible. I will spend a lot of money on a brand if I like it - and I like high end shit.

7. Hair Products/Facial Stuff

I didn't feel like making two numbers for this. I do a lot with my hair. It is not often not up/done up because I don't really like my natural hair (which you will see at the end of this post as well as me without makeup!) I spend a lot of money on my hair, including dye, so I suppose this is one of the things that if I didn't have any money, really, I would go into debt taking care of my hair.

8. DVDs

This is the family DVD collection, and I have at least 30 of my own in my room that only I would care to watch. I love movies. My parents spend the money on these, so this kind of doesn't count, but you can never watch Indiana Jones enough times, thankyouverymuch.

9. Anything Japanese (books/magazines especially)

I love Japanese shit. I would spend all my money on Japanese brands/magazines/movies/books/manga if I could. These are my 300 level Japanese textbooks, and they cost me a pretty penny, too.

10. Smokes

Such a bad habit D: I smoke because I am stressed at home. I can smoke at will, really, I'm not as addicted as people think I am.

11. My DS

With an R4 card, thanks. Enough said.

12. My Phone

But I wish that I had a BlackBerry and a data plan D: mom says we can get those when she kicks my father to the curb.

13. My iPod

And fancy Japanese headphones that don't make my ears bleed because they rub (on the end that isn't shown here, there are big rhinestones that are fancy fancy and shiny as well). This is an 30 GB, btw, and it's full; I have over 100 GB of music left to fit on it .... (hence why I want a new one).

14. My Computer(s)

I start on Monday, and also work Thursday - like 10 hours my first week! Awesome!

I went for my interview and I was so fucking nervous but I needn't have been, honestly.
i showed up and then went upstairs and there were super nice, and commented on how pretty my dress was and then the lady was like "well let's get down to business"

and then i was like "FUCK SRS BSNS TAIM"
but it was really laid back, actually, and they asked questions that I could really answer, like "if you had a line of customers, people filling out membership cards, and a manager calling on the phone for assistance on the floor, what would you do?" (a: help the manager, b: serve membership card person, then regular customer, then membership, repeat, c: check that the manager got the help they needed (in that order)). and then they asked about my strengths and weaknesses and all that stuff that psychologically asses you and I passed HAHA.

they did ask me if i had a lot of experience working with children (have I mentioned that I was interviewing for a cashier position at the Dupage Children's Museum? lol idk if i had) and i was honest and said not a lot but that kids seem to like me, maybe it was that i often had strange hair colors and they LAUGHED at that and said that was interesting.

And i was also honest and told them that my hair was often different shades of colors that were not natural to humans and they told me IT WAS OKAY. ditto for my hair being done how it normally is. ditto for LETTING MY TATTOOS SHOW A BIT. !!!!!! this is amazing, no one's ever told me that before! score!

wages are 8.00$/hour, which is minimum wage, but the last time I worked minimum wage was 7.25$!

i do not go out in that kind of weather unless there is air con involved, thanks.

started my new diet which consists of drinking orange-flavored nutritional supplements before 2 meals and hoping to hell that i am exercising enough. if you mix the nut.supp. with milk, it tastes like a dreamsicle. mix it with apple juice, it tastes like jamba juice or a smoothie. drink it with water - well, let's just say that's a last option for me. ffff.

i loathe eating so much protein though (if you take into mind that i don't eat a lot of red meat - just hamburger and sausage, and no pork or lamb or anything like that. i eat chicken, turkey, fish. full stop). it makes me feel like a walking carb-inhaling machine, however, because i do miss eating nothing but carbs so.
